Pain management and aftercare

Worried it will hurt? Four options make laser tattoo removal more comfortable, and some can reduce how many sessions you need.

Numbing and healing

Prescription numbing cream

A prescription cream that numbs the area and soothes skin during laser treatment, reducing pain and inflammation.

Ingredients

A compound of benzocaine, lidocaine and tetracaine, formulated by a local pharmacist.

Benefits

Relief from discomfort during the session, less inflammation and redness afterward, and a faster recovery.

Side effects

The most common are irritation or an allergic reaction where the cream is applied, so follow the instructions for using it.

Tensage 40 serum

An aftercare serum by Biopelle for people going through laser tattoo removal. It soothes, hydrates and helps skin heal between sessions.

How it works

It forms a protective barrier and delivers nutrients to the treated area, helping reduce redness and irritation and speed healing.

Ingredients

Vitamin B5 and a peptide complex derived from snail secretion filtrate, which supports cell turnover and collagen.

Pro-Nox

Nitrous oxide you breathe in yourself for extra pain and stress relief during treatment. You stay in control of how much you use.

How it works

You inhale it through a single use breathing circuit. It takes effect within seconds and clears your body within seconds after you stop.

You stay in control

A demand valve means you breathe in as much relief as you need, and trained staff guide you through it.

DESCRIBE PFD Patch

A silicone patch infused with perfluorodecalin that lets the technician make several laser passes in one session.

How it works

The patch stops the white frosting that normally forms after a laser pass, so the tattoo can be treated several times per visit, and it helps the laser reach deeper ink in older tattoos.

Comfort

The patch itself causes no discomfort. Many clients report less pain, swelling and redness when it is used.

Side effects

It does not remove the normal possible side effects of laser tattoo removal, such as swelling, redness, pigment changes, blistering or scabbing.

Cost

Because more ink is treated per visit, clients often need fewer sessions overall, which can lower the total cost.

Comfort questions

Call (719) 344-8249

How can I manage pain during treatment?

Numbing agents such as our prescription cream work best. Staying relaxed and breathing deeply helps too. Tell your technician if you need more time between pulses and they will adjust.

Should I take over the counter pain medication first?

We do not recommend it. Some medications can interfere with numbing agents or increase sensitivity. Avoid ibuprofen, aspirin and alcohol before your appointment, and ask us about anything you take regularly.

What can I expect after the procedure?

Redness, swelling and minor bleeding around the treated area are normal. They usually settle within a few hours but can last up to 24 hours. Your technician goes over aftercare and any medication at your free consultation.
